History Of Tattoo Designs

The art of tattooing began many thousands of years ago.  An exact time in not know but it was long before tattooists had the privilege of having access to such advanced equipment capable of creating such precise tattoo designs.  Of course in the beginning, it is believed that tattoos were performed on individuals for more therapeutic  reasons rather than to make a statement.   Most tattoos began as simply dots and lines, nothing extravagant like you would see in modern day, detailed Dragon Tattoo Designs or a full sleeve, for example. It is believed that tattoos were originally performed on women only.  Many mummies have been found of ancient priestesses and dancers with a specific pattern around their upper and lower abdomen, on the upper thigh and above the breasts which has offered the assumption that they were performed on pregnant women to bless the contents that laid within their bodies and to hold everything in to keep safe until the right time.  Some also report that tattoos may have been performed during childbirth at specific acupuncture points to help alleviate the pain.  The women thousands of years ago can be compared to women choosing Butterfly Tattoo Designs today.  The butterflies represent a positive change and are said to create an energy portal on the wearer’s body which can also be thought of as warming and therapeutic.Although most evidence points to tattoos being originally performed exclusively on women, there are those that believe Tribal Tattoo Designs may have surfaced at the same time or even years before.  Findings of tribal art is evident in cave paintings and early pottery artifacts but it is unclear of when the tattoo procedure was actually put into practice.  Different tribes have their specific symbols and design which have traveled through history into tattoos today.  It is positively clear that tattoo designs have always had as much deep rooted symbolic meanings in history as they do today, many of which have held their representation through many years.
