There are many different ways to learn a new instrument. Some of these ways have been introduced thanks to the internet. However some people still prefer the older methods of learning. For example, private piano lessons are still a popular way to get started with this beloved instrument. There are many benefits to taking private piano lessons, but there are also some negative aspects that should be considered. Before you begin paying out for one-on-one lessons, make sure that this is the best option for you!

The Benefits of Private Piano Lessons

There are many obvious benefits to taking private piano lessons. First, you can choose an instructor and music school that have been in operation for a long time so you know that you are obtaining a quality education. You might even find others who have attended classes at your chosen school who can provide some reviews or comments about the level of service received.

Private piano lessons are ideal for people who require a lot of interaction and motivation throughout the learning process. If you need someone to guide you and help you stick to a schedule, then hire a professional instructor. They will help you stay on task, tell you what should be practiced each week and provide helpful hints and tips for perfecting your style.

Questions are bound to come up throughout the learning process. If you take private piano lessons, you can quickly and easily find answers just by asking your instructor. If you opt for internet or book learning methods, you will be left on your own to find those answers and fully understand them.

The Problems with Private Piano Lessons

No learning method is absolutely perfect for everyone. Some people prefer to learn on their own, deciding their own pace. If you take private piano lessons, you will have to keep up with an instructor. Make sure your chosen instructor is very patient and willing to work with you, otherwise you may also wind up with hurt feelings or a conflict of personalities.

Unless your instructor agrees to do in home classes, you will have to add some travel time in to the total expenses for your lessons. Not only does this take away valuable time, but also money in fuel or bus fare. Keep this added expense in mind when totaling your budget for private piano lessons.

Some students are nervous about playing in front of someone else, especially early in their learning. This is completely normal, however this can also be a big hindrance for some people. The added stress of stage fright could create problems with learning and being willing to ask questions or request clarification from your instructor.  You are paying them for private piano lessons so you must be able to ask questions and show them how well you have progressed. Otherwise, save your money and take online lessons or use a book or software program.

There are many benefits to signing up for private piano lessons. There was a time when this was the only way to learn to play, however today many new methods are offered. Some are available at a low cost or even free. Make sure private piano lessons are for you before you give out your hard earned money!
