Comedian Christy Murphy is about as far from the the famous 90210 zip code as a girl can get. Murphy who produced iconic Los Angeles comedy shows like The Laundromat Show and Comedy 90210 left LA to tour in Australia and now is set to record her first album at MediaTrack Studios here in Cebu.
Unlike many stand-up comics who record live albums, Murphy, who has recently added songs to her already stellar stand-up, is opting to record her music in the studio.
“I think every comedian wants to be a rock star,” jokes Murphy, “so I was very positive about recording a studio album after I met with the folks here at MediaTrack.” After hosting and producing the hit live Comedy 90210 show in Beverly Hills, Murphy left for Sydney to play some gigs and work on new material before settling into the Philippines to work on the new ablum, “Feeling Good, Looking Good.”
No stranger to music, Murphy will play the guitar, keyboards and sing on the album. Having grown up in a musical family, her sister Edie Murphy is both a renouned bluegrass fiddler and songwriter, and her bass playing brother, all started out as classical musicians.
“For the longest time when people found out I was a musician,” Murphy says in her stage act, “they would ask me over to jam. I studied classical violin for 15 years. I don’t jam. Never in the history of orchestra ever did the conductor ever say, ‘First violins take it,’ and then we’d jam away.”
Murphy may have to take that joke out of her act, because after hearing some of the rehearsals for the new album, which will feature hits from her act such as “Single Girl’s Love Song” and “Creepy Guy” plus new songs, she can definitely jam.
