I am a single parent with 2 young children to look after. I juggled them around my job and so far ive done a pretty good job with help from my family too. I have parental guardianship over my kids and make sure i take my annual leave so we have as much time together as possible. My youngest is disabled and as such requires more care and attention which i unfortunately struggle to provide whilst working, the benefits we receive do help and take some of the strain off but ive found i still need to work full time to pay the bills and keep a roof over our heads. As said i take as much time off as possible especially in the school holidays and half term. I did not know until recently though that i could use something called parental leave policy which means i can take 13 weeks of unpaid leave to care for the kids. This isnt ideal as it is unpaid but does mean i can take this time off and still have a job to go back to as i am entitled to it. With a disabled child this can be taken up until their 18th birthday. Any parent can take this from what i can see but unless your child has a disability you can only take it until our child is 5 years old. Im trying to make more people aware of this as i have found it great to be able to have more time with the kids, i tend to work some overtime before i do though to cover myself whilst off so my wages dont change much.
